Blinky Bill Biography
Blinky Bill ( Sellanga Ochieng) is a Kenyan musician, Producer and Dj. He is an alumni of the US State-funded music programme One Beat Music in 2013.
He is also a founding member of Kenyan electronic music and art collective Just a Band with whom he has released three albums. In 2006, he participated at Red Bull Music Academy in Tokyo and a TED follower.
His music is a mix of electronic music, futuristic African beats, funk and hip hop. He has also played at The Cape Town Jazz Festival, Little gig in Stellenbosch, the TED Conference in Vancouver and has been included in the 2018 Yerba Buena Centre of the Arts YBCA100, a list of 100 people shifting culture and creating change. In October 2018 His debut album ‘Everyone’s Just Winging It and Other Fly Tales’ came out.
Blinky Bill Career
He began his solo career by exposing his Dj skills by going events such as Kenya Nights and later he released his first solo project in 2016, We Cut Keys While You Wait. The extended play (EP) was a six-song offering featuring Kenyan acts Shappaman, Sage Chemutai and Maia Von Lekow.
The EP saw Blinky venture into his usual unpredictable eclectic sound experiences that have further enabled him to secure deals with Sony Music France, that will distribute his debut album. He has been behind many productions for MDQ, Fena Gitu and EA Wave, among others, and has had the privilege to play as a DJ in shows abroad including Ted Talks, and Sway in the Morning.
