Kiambu Town is a town in Kiambu County, Central Province, Kenya. Other proximate towns are Ruiru (east of Kiambu), Gatundu (NE), Limuru (NW) and Kabete (SW).

Kiambu Town Climate

The climate in Kiambu is warm and temperate. There is a great deal of rainfall in Kiambu, even in the driest month. This climate is considered to be Cfb according to the Köppen-Geiger climate classification. The temperature here has an averages 18.8 °C. In a year, the average rainfall is 962 mm.
The driest month in Kiambu is July, with 18 mm of rain. The greatest amount of precipitation in the town occurs in April, with an average of 212 mm.
Kiambu Town is the capital of  Kiambu county located North East of Nairobi City at 1° 10′ 0″ S, 36° 50′ 0″ E, and about 1,720 m above sea level. Kiambu Town is 13 km from Nairobi city, 130 km from Nakuru and 449 km from Mombasa
Kiambu town is surrounded by hilly Kikuyu farmland although is under urbanisation as Nairobi is growing fast and more people settle in neighbouring towns. Kiambu Kenya is seen as a future anchor to the capital city Nairobi which is undergoing rapid development with limited space for growth.

The town is surrounded by hilly Kikuyu farmland although is under urbanisation as Nairobi is growing fast and more people settle in neighbouring towns. Kiambu is seen as a future anchor to the capital city Nairobi which is undergoing rapid development with limited space for growth.
Apart from central Kiambu, there are villages such as Ndumberi, Riabai, Kihingo, Ngegu, Kanunga and Kangoya among others. The town’s administration is under the County Government of Kiambu, which came into force with the promulgation of Kenya’s constitution in 2010. Kiambu is also center of Kiambaa, an administrative division and electoral constituency of Kiambu District.
Kiambu town is now a favoured location for real estate development with projects such as Migaa by Home Afrika and Four Ways Junction.
Kiambu Club, opened in 1916, is one of the oldest nine-hole golf courses in Kenya. The club also has other facilities like tennis courts and swimming pools. The club’s main lounge is in honour of Kenya’s First Lady, also an honorary member of the club, Mama Ngina Kenyatta.
In the outskirts of Kiambu town is Kiambu High School, a nationally recognized boarding school for its performance in academics and sports.

Economic Activities in Kiambu Town

Kiambu town relies mostly on agriculture and industries to sustain its economy. Although, majority of residents are small scale farmers growing tea and coffee, there are several large-scale coffee and tea farms which are serviced by local industries. Local tea factories include Kambaa Tea Factory in Githunguri, Gachege Tea Factory in Kiambu and Ngorongo Tea Factory.
The expansion of the Thika Superhighway has opened up the county and led to an explosion of the real estate market with several big projects under development, such as Tatu City, Thika Greens and Buffalo Hills complexes.

Places to Visit and Things To Do in Kiambu Town

Evergreen Park

Evergreen Park and Garden is a recreational site situated along Kiambu Road approximately 6 Km from the Muthaiga Golf Club.The area covers about 10 acres of dry land and 2.5 acres of water surface in form of a dam. The dry land is covered by well groomed Kikuyu and Zimbabwe green grass and well shaded fruit trees.
The land is well terraced and slopes towards the dam ultimately providing a very scenic water front garden with a serene and relaxing atmosphere.
The Park is ideal for outdoor activities such as weddings , picnics , camping , birthday/goat eating parties , office excursions and team bulding , retreats , school tours among others.
We organize extensive farm tour for schools where children come into contact with farm animals such as cows , goats , pigs , horses , camels , chicken , ducks etc. Farm output include coffee , maize , beans , avacados and a wide range of vegetabales.
We offer activities such as ball games , boat rides (with life jackets) , horse & camel rides , tug of war , fishing , bouncing castles , swings etc. that keep everyone entertained.

How to get to Kiambu town

town relies on road transport for goods and passengers. It takes about 20 minutes of travel from Nairobi to Kiambu town, 30 minutes from Nairobi to Ruiru and approximately 45 minutes to Thika. You can get to Kikuyu from Nairobi in 35 minutes while Nairobi to Githunguri will take 50 minutes. Travellers can enjoy modern road service of the new Northern bypass which stretches from Ruiru to Ruaka.
There’s an active railroad transport system from the Railways Bus Station in Nairobi to several towns neighboring Kiambu town.

People of Kiambu County

With a total population of about 13,814 according to the 2009 census by Kenya Population and Housing Census, Kagumo town acts as a home to people from various ethnicity.
The Kikuyu are the main ethnic group in the town with other different groups of people in the town being; the Embu and Kamba, the Borana, Somali, Asian and a few Caucasian whites who have also made the town home.
Most of these people are engaged in business or employed in the various sub-sectors in the region.
