About Kisii University

Kisii University is a university located in Kisii. It was founded in 1965 as a primary teachers’ training college on a 61-acre land that was donated by the County Council of Gusii. The college continued up to 1983 when it was upgraded to a secondary teachers’ college to offer Diploma programs.

The government of Kenya mandated the university to take over the college as its campus in 1994. Kisii Campus was one of the earliest campuses to be created in Kenya by the then Head of State, H.E. Daniel Arap Moi. In 1999, the Faculty of Commerce established a Bachelor of Business and Management as its first degree programs within the campus to run alongside a postgraduate Diploma in Education, which was phased out in 2001.

On 23 August 2007, Kisii University College was established through a Government Legal Notice No.163 of 2007 as a constituent college of Egerton University. On 6 February 2013, it was awarded a charter to become the 13th public university in Kenya.

The university main campus is situated 2 km from Kisii Town Centre, off the Kisii – Kilgoris Road.

1.Kisii University Kabarnet Campus

Kisii University Kabarnet Campus is strategically located in the centre of Kabarnet Town. The campus plays a major role in increasing access to quality affordable education. Through research and outreach programs the campus hopes to spur the economic, social and cultural development in the larger Rift region.

2.Kisii University Kericho Campus

Kisii University is a Chartered Public University offering quality and affordable education in the 21st century. Due to the high demand of Kisii University market driven programs, the University has established Kericho Campus. The Campus is set to spur the economic, social and cultural development in the larger Western region.

3.Migori Campus

Kisii University is a Chartered Public University offering quality and affordable education in the 21st century. 4.Kisumu Campus

Kisii University Kisumu Campus is strategically located at  Swan Centre in downtown Kisumu  City.  The campus plays a major role in increasing access to quality affordable education. We have  state – of – art  learning facilities.Through research and outreach programs the campus hopes to spur the economic, social and cultural development  wtihin the western  region and Kenya at large.

5.Town Campus

Kisii Town Campus was started in 2002 with the aim of admitting students pursuing short courses in areas of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT), Marketing and Management and those enrolled for Masters in Business Administration. Since then, many more courses, Diplomas and Degrees have been introduced.The KSUTown Campus has full – time and evening (part-time) classes. The Evening classes offer an opportunity to students who are qualified but are not able to attend full – time studies due to other commitments.There is great demand for admission for courses this is due to our continuous and flexible admission dates that is, January, May and September of every year. We also have three semesters every academic year thus ensuring that there is little time lost in terms of long school breaks.Plans are underway to introduce more certificate, diploma and degree courses in areas of Agriculture, ICT, Law and Medicine. The campus is headed by the Director, who is supported by the programmes co-ordinator.

6.ELDORET CAMPUS

Kisii University is a Chartered Public University offering quality and affordable education in the 21st century. Due to the need of quality and affordable education in the North Rift region, Kisii University, Eldoret Campus was established. It provides a cool, serene and breathtaking scenery with the perfect ambience and environment conducive for teaching, learning as well as high intellectual exploration. With flexible study options ranging from fulltime, evening, weekend and school-based programmes at an affordable fee. It’s  an ideal place for academic growth.

8.NAIROBI CAMPUS

Kisii University is a Chartered Public University offering a wide range of courses at an affordable price which cannot be compared to any university operating in Nairobi. The university was established due to the demand and thirst for higher education which has been very expensive in Kenya. The university will help in reducing the bureaucratic red tapes which have been put in place by other Universities making some students stay in school for up to six years for a Masters and PhD programmes. The University will therefore help students in finishing their programmes within the required minimum period of time.

The location of the Campus provides cool, serene and breathtaking scenery with the perfect ambience and environment conducive for teaching, learning as well as high intellectual exploration.
