Located along the Makutano-Ravine-Kampi Ya Moto highway in Baringo county. Majimazuri Town Kenya is the most southerly part of the greater Baringo county. Majimazuri Town neighbors Kericho’s Londiani and Nakuru’s Kamara towns.
The town resulted from settlement formed by migrants who used to work in the Koibatek Forest but were either retrenched or retired at one time. Majimazuri Town homes people from different ethnic groups in Kenya. however, the Agikuyu and the Tugen are the majority population.
History of Maji Mazuri Town
The name Maji Mazuri was created by foreign railway workers who came to construct the Nakuru Eldoret railway line. It is said that when they arrived in Maji Mazuri, they were amazed by the clean waters of the rivers flowing through the area from the greater Mau catchment. The water was clear, clean and cold that they had to leave to boil in the morning before coming back to use it to shower later in the evening. It is worth noting that Maji Mazuri area is among the very few green parts of the greater Baringo County and is therefore, seen as a potential bread-basket for the much drier areas in the lowlands.
Maji Mazuri neighbors Timboroa Town (Which marks the Uasin Gishu, Baringo Border) and Eldama Ravine town (the sub-county headquarters). Igure farm and Makutano township are all found under the Maji Mazuri boundaries.
Majimazuri Town Climate
Majimazuri town being the most southerly part of the greater Baringo county has temperatures ranging between 25°C during the cold months (June and July) and 30°C during the hot months (January and February). The town experiences two rainy seasons; March to June (long rains) and November (short rains) and receives between 1000mm and 1500mm of rainfall annually.
Economic Activities in Majimazuri Town
Agriculture is the main source of income. Crops such as maize in Kenya and beans in Kenya are grown in the area as food crops whereas, coffee in Kenya and cotton in Kenya are grown as cash crops. Livestock farming in Kenya is also carried out so as to supplement crop farming in the area. Cattle like goats, sheep, and camels are some of the animals kept in Majimazuri town.
Bee keeping in Kenya and Aloe Vera plant cultivation are the emerging economic activities in Majimazuri town.
